read more closeSwinging to the waves of the Pacific Ocean, you will be at the top of a volcanic underwater mountain, away from humans. The Bat Islands Archipelago lies an hour and a half away from Coco Bay in the secluded waters of Santa Rosa National Park.
Below the Bat Islands Archipelago – one of the few places in the world where you can see bull sharks - you will find an endless beauty of sea life with sandy bottoms, giant volcanic rocks draped with algae and dotted with shark caves.
You will explore two dive sites: The Big Scare and Black Rock.
The Big Scare – Free Descent
Keep yourself focused under the rough water surface conditions. You start descending on your own without the help of a line to approximately100 feet (30 meters) in order to get close to the bull sharks and glide along Giant Mantas.
The Black Rock – Negative Descent
Gear up, sit on the side of the boat and flip into the water at the same time. Your divemaster guide will check to insure that everything is okay and then you can start going down to see more sharks and other marine life.
Logistics
Be at the dive shop at 6 a.m. to check in. You can drive and park in the parking spaces available in the dive shop parking lot or the dive shop will tell you where to park. We can also arrange to pick you up at your hotel between 5 a.m. and 5:30 a.m.– additional fees may apply.
Check in with the dive shop to register, sign the waivers and medical questionnaires and meet your designated divemaster. Fit your diving equipment and gear.
The dive shop will walk with you or drive you to the beach and a dinghy boat will take you from the beach to the boat anchored in the bay. Once everyone is on-board, your divemaster will introduce you to the crew and the captain, give you a security and emergency procedures briefing.
Get to know your fellow divers and enjoy the coastal views while you cruise past the Papagayo Gulf – about an hour depending on weather conditions – until you get to the Bat Island Archipelago. The trip may be rough depending on winds.
The boat offers covered area, shore communication system, oxygen and a first aid kit. Refreshments including fresh fruit are served on board. A light lunch is served when taking a three-tank dive.
Note: The dive instructor might at his/her own discretion require you to do a local dive to test your abilities and assess your current diving level to ensure you will have a safe dive in "Big Scare".
