Shaded by palm trees and forest overflowing from the cliffs on each side, the smooth sands on Pelada are optimal for a game of soccer, volleyball or building sandcastles.
The beach extends more than two miles, and people often set up umbrellas and chairs on the southern half of the stretch where tidal pools appear during low tide. Heading north from the tidal pools toward the Nosara River mouth, pelicans and seagulls are often seen diving for fish in Pelada's waves, gentle with minimal riptide.
At sunset, Pelada is the place to be in Nosara, as the glassy black volcanic rocks reflect the yellow, pink and purple hues of the sky just before the stars come out. At dinnertime, visit the two main restaurants right on the beach, Olga's and La Luna, to mingle and dance the night away with locals you won't find many other places within Nosara.
